Building Code Officials with green building expertise review plans and engineering calculations, process permit requests, and conduct site inspections to ensure code compliance for commercial construction projects with significant energy efficiency measures included in the scope of work.
Commercial Building Code Officials visit and confirm that existing or newly constructed commercial buildings are safe and in compliance with federal and local codes, contractual specifications, and zoning laws. Code Officials who have specialized knowledge in green building design and construction are able to quickly assess those features to determine that workers have installed them safely and as designed for a high-performance, green building. In general, Commercial Building Code Officials may evaluate commercial building plans, inspect construction sites and buildings, issue citations, and provide corrective advice. In addition to local municipalities, Code Officials may be self-employed or work on staff for architectural or engineering firms.
